FII / DII Flows

Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) continued their robust buying spree on Wednesday, infusing a substantial ₹6,425.16 crore into the market. This marks a consistent pattern of DII support over the past five sessions, highlighting strong domestic confidence. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) also maintained their positive stance, recording net purchases of ₹502.63 crore on Wednesday. This extends their net buying streak to three consecutive sessions, following inflows of ₹1,593.53 crore on Tuesday and ₹1,181.66 crore on Monday, reversing two prior sessions of net selling observed on August 20th and 21st. The sustained buying from both institutional categories could provide a floor for market movements.

The banking and financial services sector showed resilience, contributing significantly to the Nifty Bank’s upward movement. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. surged +3.76% to ₹416.7 and Axis Bank Ltd. gained +1.62% to ₹1255. HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd. also closed higher by +1.15% at ₹553. Other notable gainers included JSW Steel Ltd. (+1.57%) and Ultratech Cement Ltd. (+1.53%), indicating specific strength in metals and infrastructure-related segments.

Conversely, sectors like Telecom and IT faced selling pressure, impacting the broader Nifty 50. Bharti Airtel Ltd. was among the top losers, declining −2.31% to ₹1902.1. Infosys Ltd. also saw a notable drop of −2.10%, closing at ₹1120. Power Grid Corporation Of India Ltd. (−2.14%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (−1.96%), and Nestle India Ltd. (−1.86%) were also among the significant laggards, pointing to profit booking in diverse large-cap names.
