The benchmark Nifty 50 closed at 24245.15, registering a decline of 89.15 points, or 0.37%. Despite the headline index’s dip, market breadth remained positive with 31 Nifty stocks advancing against 19 declines out of 50, indicating broader participation in gains across several counters.

Key Index Movements

The Nifty Bank index experienced a significant downturn, shedding 558.65 points (0.95%) to close at 57962.75, reflecting the weakness in major banking stocks. In contrast, the NIFTY Midcap 100 showed resilience and outperformed, closing higher by 385.70 points (+0.62%) at 62813.75, signalling strength in the broader market.

Sectoral Performance and Top Movers

The banking sector was the weakest performer among the indices, recording a notable decline of 1.21%. Other sectors also saw minor corrections, with declines of 0.15%, 0.19%, and 0.20%. Conversely, some sectors posted moderate to strong gains, including +2.79%, +1.42%, and +0.73%, contributing to the positive market breadth.

Among the Nifty 50 constituents, top gainers included Trent Ltd., which surged +2.91% to ₹2925.1. Power Grid Corporation Of India Ltd. also performed strongly, rising +1.98% to ₹289.15, following news of its success as a bidder to establish an Inter-State Transmission System, comprising augmentation and bay extension works at Bhadla-III S/S, Ramgarh S/S and Kanpur S/S. Bharti Airtel Ltd. gained +1.70% to ₹1941.2, supported by its announcement of strengthening network readiness across Odisha ahead of the Puri Rath Yatra, deploying over 1,500 new 5G sites in the state over the last 12 months. Institutional Flow

Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) remained net buyers in today’s session, injecting +1017.89 crore into the market. Conversely, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued their selling trend, offloading equities worth −376.41 crore.
