Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in New Delhi to discuss deepening bilateral ties across several strategic sectors. A primary objective of the talks was to establish a roadmap for increasing annual bilateral trade.

The leadership set clear financial targets and addressed existing trade imbalances during their discussions. Indian exporters are currently seeking greater market access to address the deficit in Russia’s favor.

In the energy sector, the two sides agreed to enhance collaboration in civil nuclear energy and fertilizer security. President Putin also briefed Prime Minister Modi on the situation in Ukraine during the geopolitical talks.
In response to the briefing, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s consistent stance that the conflict should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. Following the productive meeting, President Putin invited Prime Minister Modi to Russia for the 24th annual India-Russia summit, an invitation which the Prime Minister accepted.
