KreditBee has become India’s newest unicorn, achieving a valuation of $1.5 billion after securing $280 million in a Series E funding round. This makes KreditBee the second unicorn of 2026, following Juspay.
The funding occurred during a slowdown in India’s startup ecosystem, where total startup funding decreased by 26% year-over-year to $2.3 billion in the first quarter of 2026, according to Inc42’s Q1 report. Despite these conditions, KreditBee’s funding round was oversubscribed, indicating investor confidence in its lending approach.
Madhusudan E, cofounder and CEO of KreditBee, noted the company’s initial success in April 2018, when its digital lending experience quickly gained traction. KreditBee focused on providing instant loans without the need for branch visits, a novel concept in the Indian market at the time.
KreditBee’s strategy involved targeting underserved and new-to-credit users, addressing a gap in the traditional lending market. Madhusudan previously worked on integrating lending into ecommerce checkout flows but faced resistance from lenders who required physical verification. This experience led to the creation of KreditBee in 2016, along with Karthikeyan K and Vivek Veda. By 2017, the company had obtained an NBFC licence under KrazeBeee Services.
The company conducted beta tests with college students to ensure the robustness of its systems. KreditBee officially launched in April 2018 and quickly disbursed ₹3 Cr in loans within the first month. The company prioritized risk filtration over aggressive expansion, maintaining a tight approval rate.
Initially targeting students, KreditBee shifted to salaried individuals, now comprising nearly 70% of its user base. The company disburses approximately 30,000 loans daily, serving 18 million unique customers to date and disbursing 60 million loans cumulatively. Its product suite includes personal loans, business loans, loans against property, and two-wheeler loans, with an average ticket size of ₹60,000.
KreditBee leverages data from 150 sources to build borrower profiles, using AI and machine learning models to assess credit behavior. The company has underwritten 8 Cr applications and disbursed loans to 1.8 Cr borrowers using these models. KreditBee also uses AI in customer engagement, handling around 70 Lakh customer interactions in FY26 with AI-assisted systems.
KreditBee is preparing for a public listing, potentially by the end of 2026, and plans to raise up to ₹1,000 Cr through a fresh issue. The company also aims to become a small finance bank in the next five years, reflecting a trend among fintech lenders to move up the regulatory stack.
