Motorcycle enthusiasts looking for a new ride in the 200 cc segment now have a fresh option as Yamaha introduces its YZF-R2 in India.
This new sportbike, priced at ₹2,30,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi), expands Yamaha’s popular R-series lineup and promises deliveries by mid-September.
The YZF-R2 is Yamaha’s first global launch in this segment and is positioned above the existing YZF-R15 model. Early interest has been strong, with approximately 10,000 units already pre-booked since bookings opened earlier this month.

Designed for the R-Series Spirit
Hajime Aota, chairman of Yamaha Motor India group, clarified that the YZF-R2 is for riders who live the R-series spirit, not just a simple segment entry. He also noted Yamaha Motor India group saw a robust 41 percent year-on-year growth in the first half of 2026.
Aota emphasized India’s increasing importance as a global hub for Yamaha, handling engineering, manufacturing, and exporting high-quality motorcycles worldwide.
What’s Inside the New Ride
This lightweight sportbike boasts a 204 cc liquid-cooled four-stroke engine, designed for strong acceleration and a high-revving character. It features a finger-follower rocker-arm valvetrain with diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating, a technology inspired by Yamaha’s flagship R1.

A Traction Control System (TCS) is included.
There’s an assist & slipper clutch for smoother shifts.
Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) offers selectable riding modes.
It features 37 mm upside-down (USD) front forks.

The launch follows the earlier discontinuation of the 321 cc YZF-R3, which had left many Yamaha enthusiasts wanting. The YZF-R2 aims to fill this gap, offering an accessible entry into the supersport world with its R-series DNA.
It will be available in three variants and five color options, catering to diverse preferences.
With over one million R-series motorcycles already on Indian roads, Yamaha is banking on the YZF-R2 to continue its growth trajectory and attract new riders to its performance-oriented lineup.
