Vedanta Aluminium introduces advanced automotive-grade alloys in India, aiming to reduce import reliance and boost local sourcing for vehicle manufacturing.

Vedanta Aluminium Metal Ltd has strategically unveiled new high-performance, automotive-grade alloys in India. This move is designed to empower domestic vehicle manufacturers, strengthening local sourcing and significantly decreasing reliance on imported materials.

The company’s expansion of its automotive solutions portfolio directly supports the ‘Make in India’ initiative. These advanced primary foundry alloy (PFA) products are tailored to meet the industry’s growing need for lighter, more efficient, and durable vehicles.

Introducing Advanced Automotive Alloys

Vedanta Aluminium has launched two distinct PFA products, each engineered for specific performance enhancements:

  • Copper-Doped Alloy: Leverages copper for enhanced durability, wear resistance, and superior performance at elevated operating temperatures. It is specifically suited for critical engine, transmission, and powertrain components.
  • Vedanta Foundry Alloy: Combines lightweighting with exceptional strength, improved corrosion resistance, and optimized casting performance. This alloy targets a broad spectrum of applications in both conventional and electric vehicles.

Rajesh Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium Metal, noted the rapid evolution of India’s automotive sector, which drives demand for advanced materials offering lightweighting, strength, durability, corrosion resistance, and high recyclability. He affirmed Vedanta Aluminium’s commitment to developing next-generation metals domestically that meet global performance standards.

India’s Automotive Market Position

India holds a significant position in the global automotive landscape, underscoring the importance of domestic material innovation:

  • Largest market globally for two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
  • Third-largest market worldwide for passenger and commercial vehicles.

By making these high-performance alloys readily available, Vedanta Aluminium aims to enable manufacturers to construct agile, future-ready value chains. This innovation collectively boosts component longevity, enhances vehicle efficiency and reliability, and addresses the evolving performance demands of next-generation mobility.
