By Business DeskIndia EV Market Surges: E-2 Wheelers Hit 2 Lakh in July

India’s electric vehicle market soared in July, with e-2 wheelers surpassing 2 lakh registrations for the first time. Discover key growth drivers and market trends.

India’s electric vehicle (EV) market experienced a significant surge in July, with total registrations climbing over 66% year-on-year to approximately 3.3 lakh units. This robust growth was primarily propelled by electric two-wheelers, which for the first time recorded over 2 lakh registrations in a single month.

The overall market expansion, up from nearly 2 lakh units in July 2025, reflects several converging factors. Rising oil prices, a broader selection of available EV models, and an expanding dealer network across India have collectively boosted consumer adoption.

Key Market Numbers for July

  • Total EV registrations reached approximately 3.3 lakh units, marking an increase of over 66% from July 2025.
  • Electric two-wheeler registrations hit 204,201 units, surpassing June’s 1.95 lakh and last year’s July figure of 1.1 lakh.
  • Electric two-wheelers now account for 11.2% of all two-wheeler registrations in July, a slight rise from 10.6% in June.
  • The average monthly registrations for electric two-wheelers in 2026 have increased to around 1.7 lakh units, compared to 1.1 lakh in the previous year.

Electric two-wheelers solidified their position as the primary growth engine within the EV segment. This sustained momentum indicates greater consumer acceptance and wider availability of scooters across various price points, fundamentally reshaping the personal mobility landscape.

Leading Electric Two-Wheeler Players

  • TVS Motor maintained its leadership with 55,465 registrations, up from 47,418 in June.
  • Bajaj Auto secured the second spot, registering 45,562 Chetak units, an increase from 43,505 in the prior month.
  • Ather Energy recorded 30,317 registrations, a slight dip from 31,440 units in June.
  • Hero MotoCorp’s Vida saw volumes rise to 22,883 units from 21,893.
  • Ola Electric experienced a decrease in registrations to 14,102 units from 16,249.

Conversely, the electric passenger vehicle segment experienced a minor slowdown in July after a record-breaking performance in June. Registrations eased to 32,660 units from 33,441 in the preceding month, though sales remained significantly higher than the previous year.

Despite the slight dip in overall electric passenger vehicle registrations, Tata Motors continued to dominate the electric car and SUV segment. The company’s registrations rose to 13,568 units in July, up from 12,766 units in June, underscoring its market leadership.

The July figures underscore a clear trend: India’s EV adoption is accelerating, driven by the accessibility and growing acceptance of electric two-wheelers. While passenger EV growth saw a momentary pause, the underlying market shift towards electrification remains robust, indicating a significant transformation in the automotive sector.
