India Auto Sales Hit Record July: PVs Surge 34%

India’s automotive sector achieved an unprecedented milestone in July, marking its strongest sales performance ever for the month. Automakers dispatched a record 457,810 passenger vehicles to dealerships, including electric models.

This surge represents a substantial 34% year-on-year increase, signaling robust demand across the market.

Key July Sales Figures

• Passenger vehicle dispatches: 457,810 units (up 34% year-on-year)
• Two-wheeler sales: 1,923,483 units (up 23% year-on-year)
• Three-wheeler volumes: 92,560 units (up 33% year-on-year)

The record-breaking performance was largely fueled by enhanced affordability for consumers, following a crucial GST rate cut. Additionally, strong demand for CNG vehicles played a significant role in driving these impressive sales figures.

Leading Automakers Drive Growth

Major manufacturers significantly contributed to the overall industry expansion, reporting substantial increases in their individual sales volumes for July.

• Maruti Suzuki: Sales soared 42%, dispatching 196,203 units, an all-time high for the market leader.
• Tata Motors: Experienced a remarkable 58% growth in dispatches.
• Mahindra & Mahindra: Saw a solid 20% rise in sales.
• Hyundai Motor India: Reported a 23% year-on-year increase in its sales.
• Hero MotoCorp: The two-wheeler segment leader recorded a 22% increase in local sales.
• Tata Motors (commercial vehicles): Commercial vehicle sales rose by 28% compared to the previous July.

Rajesh Menon, director-general of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), confirmed the industry’s robust health. He highlighted that July saw the strongest-ever sales, characterized by strong double-digit growth across all vehicle categories.

This widespread growth across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers, coupled with strong contributions from key players, underscores a broad-based recovery and sustained consumer confidence in the automotive market.
