India’s auto sector shows strong July sales momentum across segments. Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Tata Motors report significant growth, signaling a positive outlook for the festive season.

India’s auto sector demonstrated significant strength in July, with major manufacturers reporting robust sales figures. This performance signals a sustained demand momentum across passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and two-wheelers, positioning the industry favorably as it approaches the crucial festive season.

The strong domestic growth generally outpaced exports for most companies, underscoring the resilience of local demand.

Key July Sales Performance

  • Maruti Suzuki: Total sales surged by 33.4% year-on-year, reaching 2.41 lakh units. Domestic sales saw a 42% increase, while exports grew by 5.3%.
  • Mahindra & Mahindra: Experienced a 26% rise in total sales to 1.03 lakh units. This growth was driven by a 53% jump in its three-wheeler segment and a 20% increase in passenger vehicle sales.
  • Tata Motors CV: Its commercial vehicle division recorded a 37% rise in total sales. Notably, exports more than doubled compared to the previous year.
  • Hyundai Motor: Achieved a 25.4% increase in overall sales, fueled by growth in both domestic sales and exports.

Two-Wheeler Segment Shows Strength

The two-wheeler market also contributed significantly to the sector’s positive trajectory. Hero MotoCorp reported a substantial 19% increase in total sales for July.

This growth was largely attributed to a 21.6% rise in domestic sales, despite a 14% decline in exports. Motorcycle sales climbed by 17%, with scooter sales experiencing a 32% jump, highlighting broad-based demand within the segment.

The Big Picture: Sustained Domestic Demand

These July figures collectively paint a clear picture of India’s auto market. The consistent growth across diverse vehicle categories, particularly the strong domestic performance, reinforces the industry’s positive outlook.

As manufacturers gear up for the festive season, these sales trends indicate a powerful underlying demand that could further drive the sector’s expansion in the coming months.
