Goa Approves Flexible Road Tax for Construction Vehicles

By Business DeskGoa Approves Flexible Road Tax for Construction Vehicles

Goa Cabinet introduces flexible road tax for construction vehicles: choose 1% annual tax or a 9% one-time payment at registration.

The Goa Cabinet has approved a new road tax system for construction equipment vehicles, introducing two flexible payment options for owners. This decision allows for a choice between an annual tax and a one-time payment at registration.

This new framework addresses the taxation of heavy machinery vital for infrastructure projects.

New Tax Payment Structure

Owners can now choose between two primary methods for road tax payment. They can opt for an annual tax equivalent to 1% of the vehicle’s total cost, or select a one-time tax of 9% payable at the time of registration.

This system applies to various construction vehicles, including excavators, wheel loaders, mobile cranes, and forklift trucks, which are often used intermittently.

The flexibility was introduced after the Goa Crane Owners Association presented a case for an annual taxation option.

Their representation highlighted the significant upfront financial burden of the previous mandatory one-time payment, especially for equipment not in continuous operation.

The government clarified that this modification offers operational flexibility to registered owners and does not represent a tax reduction or concession.

ITI Cacora Expansion Approved

Beyond the road tax, the Cabinet also sanctioned another key acquisition to further educational infrastructure.

The approval includes the acquisition of a land parcel situated in Cacora-Curchorem, Quepem, spanning 7,925 square meters.

The compensation for this land acquisition is set at Rs 1.9 crore, pending all necessary statutory approvals and permissions, including clearances for tree-felling.
