The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has confirmed that E20 petrol is safe for consumer use, meeting all prescribed quality specifications. This assurance follows extensive nationwide testing conducted by Oil Marketing Companies in response to recent contamination concerns.

Recent media reports had raised concerns regarding potential moisture and chloride contamination in E20 petrol, specifically within the EBMS supply chain. In response, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) initiated comprehensive testing across their entire nationwide supply network.

• Daily water-ingress and density tests are now conducted at all retail outlets.
• These crucial tests are performed 8-12 times a day to ensure continuous monitoring.

Chloride Content Confirmed Low

Further analysis involved testing over 100 randomly selected petrol samples sourced from different refineries. These specific tests confirmed that chloride content consistently registered at or below 1 ppm.

This low chloride presence demonstrates the robust effectiveness of India’s refining and dispatch quality control processes. The measures collectively ensure that E20 petrol maintains its integrity from production to the point of sale.
