Key Highlights

Ather Energy’s shares surge to an all-time high, boosted by PM Modi’s clean mobility advocacy and geopolitical energy concerns.

Ather Energy Stock Surges to All-Time High Following Clean Mobility Endorsement

Shares of Ather Energy experienced a significant surge, climbing as much as 8.1% to reach a new record high of ₹989.4 on the (BSE). This notable market performance was primarily driven by positive investor sentiment following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent emphasis on increasing the adoption of clean mobility solutions. The endorsement comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions in West Asia, which have led to concerns over energy security and price volatility.

While the stock later saw some moderation, it continued to trade robustly, up 6.7% at ₹976.6 by 14:59 IST. At its peak, Ather Energy’s market capitalization stood at an impressive ₹37,371.8 Cr, approximately $3.9 billion. This latest high follows a previous record set on May 5th, when the company’s stock touched ₹982.5, reflecting sustained investor confidence in the electric vehicle manufacturer.

Strong Financial Performance Fuels Investor Confidence

The recent surge in Ather Energy’s stock price is also underpinned by its strong financial results for the fourth quarter and full fiscal year ending March 31, 2026. The company reported a substantial 57% reduction in its net loss, bringing it down to ₹100 Cr from ₹234 Cr in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. For the entire fiscal year 2026, the net loss narrowed by 36.3% to ₹517.2 Cr, compared to ₹812.3 Cr in FY25.

Operating revenues for FY26 demonstrated robust growth, increasing by 62.8% to ₹3,671.8 Cr, up from ₹2,255 Cr in the prior fiscal year. Furthermore, Ather Energy made significant strides in improving its operational efficiency, evidenced by a 51.6% reduction in its loss to ₹257 Cr. The company also saw an improvement in its EBITDA margin, which moved to -6.7% from -23% in FY25, indicating a move towards profitability.

Analyst Ratings Remain Bullish on Ather Energy

Following the release of its financial performance, leading brokerages have maintained a positive outlook on Ather Energy’s stock. HSBC reiterated its ‘Buy’ rating, setting a target price of ₹1,050. While acknowledging potential near-term profitability pressures due to commodity price fluctuations, HSBC highlighted Ather’s strong brand equity and execution capabilities as key strengths.

Similarly, Nomura maintained a ‘Buy’ recommendation with a target price of ₹1,120. Nomura’s assessment points to strong growth visibility, upcoming product launches, and an expanding distribution network as significant drivers for future growth, despite anticipated short-term margin challenges.

Broader EV Sector Benefits from Policy Push

The positive momentum in Ather Energy’s stock was mirrored across the broader electric vehicle (EV) and clean mobility sector. Shares of other major players also witnessed a strong uptick. Ola Electric, for instance, saw its shares surge by 4.5% to an intraday high of ₹37.7 on the BSE. This gain followed Ola Electric’s recent announcement regarding its mass-market electric scooter, the S1 X+, receiving approval from the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) for its indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack.

Prime Minister Modi’s public appeal in Secunderabad, urging citizens to maximize the use of their electric vehicles to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, provided a significant tailwind for the sector. His remarks underscored the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable transportation and energy independence.

Market Context: EV Rally Amidst Broader Sell-off

The rally in EV stocks occurred against a backdrop of a sell-off in the wider market. The BSE Sensex experienced a decline of 1.53%, trading at 76,144, while the was down 1.34% at 23,852. Investor sentiment in the broader market was negatively impacted by worsening geopolitical conditions in West Asia, particularly reports of US President Donald Trump rejecting Iran’s peace proposal. This development triggered a surge in crude oil prices, raising concerns about escalating energy costs, inflationary pressures, and a potential widening of the trade deficit.

Prime Minister Modi’s call for reduced fuel consumption and decreased dependence on imported goods to conserve foreign exchange amid the global energy crisis further influenced market sentiment. However, the clean mobility sector, led by Ather Energy, demonstrated resilience and significant growth potential, driven by specific policy support and strong company-specific performance metrics.
