India’s Indo-Pacific Commitment: Quad Meeting in Manila

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently reiterated India’s steadfast commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific region. This reaffirmation came during a pivotal Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting held in Manila, where the centrality of ASEAN was specifically underscored.

The meeting convened key diplomatic figures from the Quad nations. These included US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi, alongside Minister Jaishankar. The ministers collectively reviewed the current Indo-Pacific landscape and addressed recent regional developments.

Reaffirming Regional Stability

The Quad ministers collectively reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing a free and open Indo-Pacific. They also expressed unwavering support for the unity and central role of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the region’s architecture. Discussions at the meeting also focused on opportunities to bolster practical implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), addressing several shared priorities:
