Indian equity benchmarks closed higher on Thursday, with the Nifty 50 gaining 0.34% to settle at 23962.80. The session was notably supported by robust Domestic Institutional Investor (DII) buying, which offset foreign outflows. The broader market saw significant strength, with the NIFTY Midcap 100 index surging 1.38%, indicating continued investor interest beyond the frontline indices.

FII and DII Flows
On July 9, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers, recording an outflow of ₹532.86 crore. This marked a reversal after three consecutive sessions of net buying by FIIs. In contrast, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) provided substantial support to the market, with net purchases amounting to ₹2057.79 crore. Over the last five trading sessions, DIIs have shown consistent buying interest, with significant inflows also observed on July 6 at ₹3791.42 crore. FIIs have not registered any consecutive selling sessions.
Sectoral Performance
Sectoral performance was mixed, though tilted towards gains. One segment led the charge with a +3.54% increase, followed by another gaining +1.62%. Other sectors also saw positive momentum, with gains of +0.89%, +0.76%, and +0.60% respectively. On the downside, two segments registered minor declines of −0.30% and −0.21%.
Top Movers
Among the Nifty 50 constituents, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (SUNPHARMA) was a top gainer, rising +2.67% to ₹1938.7. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (BHARTIARTL) also performed strongly, up +2.28% to ₹1931.1, alongside Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (BAJAJFINSV) which gained +2.16%. Interglobe Aviation Ltd. (INDIGO) and Eternal Ltd. (ETERNAL) also saw gains of +2.06% and +2.01% respectively. On the losing side, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. (DRREDDY) fell −5.89% to ₹1269.5. Infosys Ltd. (INFY) declined −1.73%, while Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MARUTI) was down −1.60%. NTPC Ltd. (NTPC) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) also closed lower by −1.43% and −1.36% respectively.
