Sector Performance and Breadth

Market breadth within the Nifty 50 was nearly balanced, with 26 advances and 24 declines, suggesting underlying stock-specific action despite the index’s overall dip. On the sectoral front, certain segments registered notable gains, with one sector advancing by a strong +1.84% and another by +1.42%. Further positive contributions came from sectors gaining +0.65% and +0.13%. Conversely, some sectors experienced declines, with one notable sector falling by −1.48%, contributing to the overall downward pressure on the main indices. Other sectors saw minor corrections of −0.10% and −0.09%.

Top Movers and Shakers

Among the Nifty 50 constituents, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (TCS) led the gainers, surging +3.36% to ₹2452.7. Other significant advancers included Grasim Industries Ltd. (+3.20%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (+3.17%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (+3.14%), and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (+2.82%).

Conversely, the financial sector faced considerable pressure. Bajaj Finance Ltd. (BAJFINANCE) was the top loser, plummeting −5.84% to ₹1078. Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (−3.70%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (−2.50%), and JIO Financial Services Ltd. (−2.39%) also saw significant declines, highlighting the sector’s broad weakness on Friday.

Institutional Flows Provide Support

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turned net buyers on Friday, recording an inflow of ₹480.24 crore. This marks a shift from some of the earlier selling seen in the week. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) also maintained their consistent buying momentum, with a net inflow of ₹235.56 crore. This combined institutional buying suggests underlying support, despite the Nifty’s slight dip. Over the last five sessions, FII activity has been mixed, with two net selling days and three net buying days, while DIIs have largely been net purchasers, providing a crucial stabilizing factor to the market.

What to Watch at 9:15 AM

With Nifty 50 showing minor weakness but midcaps demonstrating strength, and institutional flows remaining positive, traders will closely monitor early cues for Monday’s session, especially how the financial sector performs after Friday’s significant declines.
