Indian equity markets concluded the trading week on a strong note, with the Nifty 50 index closing above the 24200 level. The benchmark index settled at 24206.90 on July 12, marking a gain of +1.02%, or +244 pts. This positive momentum was mirrored across broader markets, as the Nifty Bank also surged by +1.39%, adding +793 pts to close at 58045.90. The NIFTY Midcap 100 index posted an even stronger performance, rising +1.40% to finish at 63036.80.

Sectoral Performance

Sectoral indices largely contributed to the market’s upward trajectory. The top-performing sector recorded an impressive gain of +3.49%, followed by another strong sector with a +3.03% increase. Further gains were seen in sectors rising +1.96%, +1.32%, +0.69%, and +0.07%. Only one sector closed marginally in the red, down −0.08%, indicating broad-based buying interest across the market.

Market Breadth and Top Movers

The Nifty 50’s market breadth showed a positive bias, with 26 advances against 24 declines among the 50 constituents. Among the top gainers, JIO Financial Services Ltd. (JIOFIN) led the pack, climbing +3.68% to ₹241.96. HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd. (HDFCLIFE) followed with a gain of +2.87%, closing at ₹567.7. Other significant gainers included Adani Enterprises Ltd. (ADANIENT) up +2.39%, SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd. (SBILIFE) rising +2.26%, and Reliance Industries Ltd. (RELIANCE) which advanced +2.19%. On the losing side, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. (DRREDDY) saw the steepest decline, falling −1.99% to ₹1244.3. Eternal Ltd. (ETERNAL) dropped −0.96%, while Bharti Airtel Ltd. (BHARTIARTL) and Nestle India Ltd. (NESTLEIND) both declined −0.55%. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (SUNPHARMA) also closed with a marginal loss of −0.17%.

FII and DII Activity

Institutional flows provided substantial support to the market. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in four out of the last five sessions, indicating renewed confidence. On July 10, FIIs recorded net buying of +2603.72 cr, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) also showed robust buying interest with a net inflow of +2019.68 cr on the same day. Over the last five sessions, DIIs have been net buyers in four sessions, with their largest single-day inflow being +3791.42 cr on July 6. The sustained buying from both FIIs and DIIs underscores the positive sentiment prevailing in the market.

As the market prepares for the 9:15 AM open, the confluence of strong closing levels, broad-based sectoral gains, and consistent institutional buying sets a positive tone for Monday’s trading session.
