Indian equity markets concluded Tuesday’s session with positive momentum, as the Nifty 50 registered a gain of +0.57%, closing at 23989.15. This upward movement brings the benchmark index closer to the 24,000 mark. The broader market also saw strength, with the NIFTY Midcap 100 advancing by +0.41%, indicating a positive sentiment across mid-cap stocks.

FII and DII Flows

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued their selling trend for the third consecutive session, offloading equities worth −₹749.18 crore on June 16. This persistent outflow by foreign funds has been a notable trend in recent days. In contrast, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) provided a counterbalancing force, recording marginal net buying of +₹0.06 crore in the last session. Over the past five trading days, DIIs have consistently been net buyers, absorbing significant foreign outflows, with their net buying reaching +₹5341.29 crore on June 12 and +₹4224.51 crore on June 11.

Sector Watch

Among the sectoral movements, one leading sector posted a strong gain of +2.26%. Other sectors also contributed positively, recording increases of +1.78%, +1.22%, and +0.64% respectively. However, not all sectors participated in the rally; some experienced declines, with drops of −0.32%, −0.26%, and −0.21%.

Top Movers in Nifty 50

HCL Technologies Ltd. (HCLTECH) led the Nifty 50 gainers, surging +3.55% to close at ₹1159. Other significant advancers included Tata Consumer Products Ltd. (TATACONSUM) up +2.77% at ₹1130.9, NTPC Ltd. (NTPC) rising +2.14% to ₹355.55, Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (BAJAJFINSV) with a +2.12% gain to ₹1787.3, and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HINDUNILVR) closing +2.03% higher at ₹2199.9.

On the declining side, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (HINDALCO) was the top loser, falling −3.11% to ₹982.4. JSW Steel Ltd. (JSWSTEEL) also saw a decline of −1.71% to ₹1274.3. Other notable losers included HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd. (HDFCLIFE) down −1.17% at ₹574.4, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd. (APOLLOHOSP) decreasing −0.92% to ₹8390.5, and Eicher Motors Ltd. (EICHERMOT) closing −0.84% lower at ₹7560.5.
