The Nifty 50 concluded Thursday’s trading session on a strong note, gaining +170 points (+0.71%) to settle at 24175.70. This upward momentum was largely spearheaded by a significant rally in the IT sector, which surged by an impressive +4.64%. The broader market also saw positive action, with the NIFTY Midcap 100 advancing by +0.48%, while the Nifty Bank remained largely unchanged, registering a marginal −0.00% change. Market breadth for the Nifty 50 was nearly balanced, with 26 advances against 24 declines.

Sector Performance

The Information Technology sector was the clear outperformer, climbing +4.64%, indicating strong investor confidence in the segment. Other sectors also contributed positively to the market’s overall gains, with increases of +1.45%, +1.21%, +0.56%, +0.50%, and +0.24% respectively. In contrast, one sector experienced a decline of −0.43%, standing out as the sole laggard among those specified.

Top Movers

Leading the pack of gainers were several IT heavyweights. Infosys Ltd. (INFY) surged by +5.64% to ₹1040.9, followed by Tech Mahindra Ltd. (TECHM) with a +4.34% rise to ₹1421.3. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (TCS) also saw significant appreciation, up +4.31% to ₹2068.1, and HCL Technologies Ltd. (HCLTECH) gained +4.24%, closing at ₹1078.1. Bajaj Finserv Ltd. FII and DII Flows

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued their selling trend, registering net outflows of −₹311.82 crore on July 2, marking their fourth consecutive session as net sellers. This consistent selling by FIIs has been a notable feature in recent trading. Conversely, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) maintained their strong buying momentum, injecting +₹1784.4 crore into the market on the same day. DIIs have been net buyers for the past five consecutive sessions, providing crucial support amidst FII exits.
