Index Snapshot

Index Close Change (%)
Nifty 50 23985.35 −0.04%
Nifty Bank 56755.60 −0.58%
NIFTY Midcap 100 62351.50 +0.08%

The Nifty 50 saw 26 advances and 24 declines, indicating a balanced market breadth despite the slight dip. The Nifty Bank, however, experienced a notable decline of −0.58%, shedding −332 points.

FII & DII Flows

After four consecutive sessions of net selling, FIIs demonstrated renewed confidence on July 28, recording net purchases of +755.33 crore. This shift is a key point of interest for market participants. DIIs have consistently provided strong buying support, with their net inflow on Tuesday standing at +1664.16 crore. Over the last five sessions, DIIs have been net buyers in four, providing a significant counterweight to earlier FII outflows.

Sector Watch

Tuesday’s session saw varied sectoral performance. Technology stocks led the gains, with the IT sector showing strong upward momentum. Other sectors that closed in the green included Pharma and FMCG. On the other hand, Banking, PSU, and Metal sectors experienced declines, contributing to the Nifty Bank’s underperformance.

Top Movers

Among the Nifty 50 constituents, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (TCS) was a prominent gainer, rising +4.46% to ₹2398. Tech Mahindra Ltd. (TECHM) also performed strongly, up +3.82%. Nestle India Ltd. (NESTLEIND) and Cipla Ltd. (CIPLA) also posted decent gains. Conversely, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HINDUNILVR) was the top loser, falling −6.99%. Bharat Electronics Ltd. (BEL) and Coal India Ltd. (COALINDIA) also saw significant declines.

What to Watch at 9:15

The FII turnaround from selling to buying is a critical factor to observe. While Nifty 50 closed flat, the Nifty Bank’s dip warrants attention. Traders will be keenly watching whether FIIs sustain their buying momentum and if DIIs continue to provide a strong foundation for the market at the 9:15 AM open.
