Market activity continues to be significantly shaped by the contrasting flows from institutional investors. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) extended their selling streak for a second consecutive session, indicating a continued cautious stance from overseas funds. On Friday, August 21, FIIs were net sellers to the tune of −542.71 crore rupees. This follows a more substantial net outflow of −583.36 crore rupees on Thursday, August 20, bringing their two-day net selling to over 1100 crore rupees.

Conversely, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) have maintained their robust buying momentum, providing crucial support and absorbing the foreign selling pressure. DIIs recorded significant net purchases of +2124.14 crore rupees on August 21, more than offsetting the foreign outflows for the day. On August 20, DIIs were also strong net buyers, injecting +3537.71 crore rupees into the market, demonstrating consistent domestic confidence.

The persistent DII buying has been a key factor in underpinning the market’s stability over the past two sessions, preventing sharper corrections despite sustained FII exits. This dynamic interplay between foreign selling and domestic buying will remain a critical watchpoint. Traders will closely monitor how these institutional flows evolve and impact index movements in the initial 30 minutes of trade.
