Global Cues

US markets ended mostly higher on Tuesday, while Asian markets traded mixed ahead of the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision. Escalating tensions between the US and Iran led to a jump in crude oil prices, adding to global market caution. Concerns over artificial intelligence (AI) valuations also kept investors on edge.

Currency & Macro

The Indian Rupee strengthened by 15 paise against the US dollar, closing at 95.67. On the macroeconomic front, India’s economy remains resilient with real GDP expanding over 7% annually in the past three years. Public Sector Banks (PSBs) reported significant improvement, with net profits nearly tripling over the past five years to a record ₹1.98 lakh crore in FY26. Total business for PSBs rose to ₹283.3 lakh crore as of March 31, 2026. India also curtailed 8,133 GWh of solar power during April-June 2026 due to grid constraints. Bond yields traded higher on Wednesday, with the new 10-year Government Stock yielding 6.78%, up 1 basis point. The merchandise trade deficit is seen as a reflection of India’s development and investment requirements.
