Institutional Flows
FIIs were net sellers in the equity market on Friday, pulling out ₹3,892.77 crore. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) provided strong counter-support, injecting ₹5,453.55 crore into the market. Bond yields traded lower on Friday, with the new 10-year Government Stock yields easing to 6.81%. On the macro front, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has permitted Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in an inventory-based model of e-commerce exclusively for export purposes, aiming to boost India’s outbound shipments. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was a net seller of dollars in May, offloading $6.104 billion in the spot currency market amid pressure on the Indian rupee. India also aims to significantly increase its share of global merchandise exports to around 10% by 2047.
Inflation & Policy
Inflation remains a key concern, with India’s wholesale inflation elevated at 9.87% in June. Retail inflation also jumped to 4.38% in June, breaching the RBI’s medium-term target of 4%. In other policy news, ICRA projects India’s domestic air passenger traffic to grow by 3-6% in FY27, though it maintains a negative outlook on the aviation industry due to profitability concerns. Flash PMI data indicates that India’s private sector activity saw its slowest pace of expansion in July. The RBI is set to conduct a buyback of government securities worth ₹20,000 crore on July 28.
