Global Cues
Asian markets largely closed higher, tracking overnight gains on Wall Street, as a US-Iran peace deal helped ease geopolitical tensions and softened crude oil prices. US markets ended higher with tech stocks leading the rally, despite industrial production in May rising less than expected. The Bank of Japan hiked its rates to 1%, the highest since 1995, while the US Federal Reserve is expected to hold rates.
Currency & Macro
The Indian Rupee showed mild strength against the US Dollar, closing at 94.57, a gain of 1 paise. Bond yields also traded lower, with the new 10-year Government Stock yielding 6.86%. On the macro front, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman hinted at further measures to attract foreign investment. India recorded a current account surplus of $4.7 billion in April, driven by strong services exports. However, May WPI inflation hit 9.68% under a revised series, and retail inflation surged to 3.93% due to higher food and fuel prices.
