India’s electric vehicle (EV) market experienced significant growth in fiscal year 2026, with retail sales increasing by 24.6% to reach 2.45 million units, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).

The surge in EV adoption was primarily driven by the two-wheeler segment, which accounted for over 1.4 million units. Electric passenger vehicles also contributed to the growth, with an impressive increase of 83.63%.

This growth signals increasing consumer enthusiasm for electric vehicles in India, supported by government initiatives and growing awareness of environmental benefits.

The rise in EV sales is expected to attract further investment in the sector, including manufacturing, charging infrastructure, and technology development. As the market matures, it is likely to see more private equity and venture capital activity focused on innovative solutions and scaling up existing operations.
