Key Highlights
India boosts oil imports from Russia, Africa, Iran & Venezuela to offset Middle East supply cuts, ensuring stable fuel supply and energy security.
India is actively diversifying its crude oil sources by increasing imports from Russia and reviving supplies from African nations, Iran, and Venezuela. This strategic shift aims to mitigate the impact of reduced supplies from the Middle East and ensure a consistent flow of crude oil to meet domestic demand.
Despite facing logistical and geopolitical challenges, India has successfully avoided the fuel shortages experienced by some other countries. The country’s refiners are actively securing additional volumes of Russian oil, facilitated by a waiver from the United States, which allows for continued transactions.
The revival of supplies from Africa, along with increased engagement with Iran and Venezuela, is proving instrumental in filling the supply gap. These alternative sources are helping India maintain a stable and diversified energy portfolio.
