GoSats Raises $5M Amidst Tech Layoff Concerns

Key Highlights

GoSats secures $5M in Series A funding to scale its Bitcoin rewards platform. Announcement comes amidst tech industry layoff concerns and AI integration.

Bitcoin rewards platform GoSats has raised $5 million in a Series A round led by US-based VC firm Konvoy. The funding aims to scale its user base to 1 million, expand its product suite, enhance its tech stack, and increase hiring.

Founded in 2020, GoSats allows users to redeem cashback for Bitcoin, gold, and other asset classes, offering physical Visa cards for top-ups. It reports 80,000 monthly active users and disburses rewards worth ₹40 Lakh per month, with partners including Flipkart, Swiggy, and Nykaa.

The funding announcement comes amid broader concerns of layoffs in the tech sector. Tech giants are reportedly cutting jobs, citing automation and restructuring, with some experts suggesting AI is being used as a cover for cost-cutting measures. Oracle is estimated to have laid off up to 30,000 employees globally, with 4,000 expected in India. Atlassian recently announced a 10% workforce reduction, while Block trimmed its workforce by up to 40%.

These layoffs are attributed to capital reallocation towards data centers and hardware for AI contracts. Companies are reportedly trimming legacy operations and software teams to fund investments in GPUs and specialized data engineering teams.

Critics argue that AI is being used as an excuse to mask cost pressures or to correct overhiring during the pandemic. This trend allows companies to project an image of efficiency while funding infrastructure bets.
