The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) recently conducted a significant raid in Varanasi. They successfully seized 123 kg of ganja, estimated to be worth ₹30 lakh, from a courier company warehouse.
This operation led to the arrest of one individual, Premchand Maurya, from Azamgarh district.
Modus Operandi Uncovered
- Maurya confessed that Bablu Varman from Guwahati was responsible for sending the illicit consignments.
- The drugs were cleverly disguised with fake silk saree labels to avoid detection.
- Fake sender and receiver details were used on the packages.
- The ganja was intended for distribution across several districts, including Varanasi, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, and Deoria.
- Smugglers collected the packages using fake mobile numbers provided on receipts.
Online and Distribution Network
Officials indicated that the seized cannabis was being sold online at a rate of ₹3,800 per kg. This highlights a sophisticated network leveraging courier services and digital platforms for drug trafficking.
The joint operation by STF and NCB underscores ongoing efforts to disrupt illicit drug supply chains in the region.
