The Nifty 50 advanced by +189.75 points, or +0.78%, to close at 24573.35. Market breadth remained positive, with 31 Nifty 50 constituents advancing against 19 declines, indicating broad-based buying interest across the board.
Indian Equities Rally, Nifty Nears New Highs
The positive momentum extended beyond the Nifty 50, as the Nifty Bank also registered a gain of +418.85 points, or +0.73%, closing at 57683.70. Similarly, the NIFTY Midcap 100 index outperformed, rising by +493.50 points, or +0.78%, to settle at 63408.80. This broad market strength suggests sustained investor confidence.
IT Sector Leads Gains on Positive News Flow
The Information Technology (IT) sector emerged as the top performer today, surging by +2.68%. This was largely driven by strong performances from major IT players. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (TCS) climbed +3.62% to ₹2451.2, following the launch of its CBG Gemini Experience Center in Kolkata. Infosys Ltd. (INFY) also saw significant traction, gaining +3.55% to ₹1170.2, after its Finacle digital banking solution suite was selected by Investec and it migrated NTN Corporation’s e-commerce platform to SAP Commerce Cloud. Wipro Ltd. (WIPRO) added +2.73%.
Aviation stock Interglobe Aviation Ltd. (INDIGO) was the top Nifty gainer, soaring +4.24% to ₹5390, after signing an MoU with the Ministry of Tourism to promote India as a global tourism destination. Other notable gainers included Shriram Finance Ltd. (SHRIRAMFIN), up +3.17%, and Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (BAJAJFINSV), which rose +2.65%.
Healthcare Sector Underperforms
In contrast to the broader market rally, the Healthcare sector was the sole laggard, declining by −0.36%. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (SUNPHARMA) was the biggest drag among Nifty constituents, falling −2.29% to ₹1945. Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd. (APOLLOHOSP) also experienced a decline of −1.53%. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (BHARTIARTL) and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MARUTI) were also among the top losers, shedding −1.01% and −0.94% respectively.
Institutional Flows Remain Supportive
Provisional data for July 31, 2026, indicates continued support from institutional investors. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) recorded net buying of +₹277.48 crore. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) also showed strong buying interest, with net inflows of +₹2260.37 crore. This combined institutional buying contributed to the positive market sentiment.
