WhatsApp Pay UPI Volumes Surge, Overtakes Cred & Amazon Pay
By Business Desk
WhatsApp Pay doubles UPI transaction volume in July 2026, becoming the 8th largest app by volume and surpassing Cred and Amazon Pay.
WhatsApp Pay, Meta’s UPI service in India, significantly expanded its transaction volume in July 2026, processing 167.89 million transactions. This performance positions it as the eighth-largest UPI app by volume, moving ahead of competitors like Cred and Amazon Pay.
Growth Metrics and Market Position
The service recorded a total transaction value of Rs 12,957.07 crore during July 2026. This growth reflects a doubling of its previous volumes, marking a notable shift in the UPI ecosystem.
WhatsApp Pay is now the eighth-largest UPI application by transaction volume. Its current standing reflects its ability to surpass services such as Cred and Amazon Pay within the competitive digital payments landscape.
Regulatory Catalysts
This significant uptick follows the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) lifting user onboarding restrictions in December 2024. Previously, WhatsApp Pay operated under graded approvals, with user limits gradually increasing before full removal of these caps.
Before these restrictions were fully removed, WhatsApp Pay had reached 74.6 million transactions in July 2025. It subsequently crossed the 100 million transaction mark in December 2025, indicating a steady climb in adoption.
Continued Competition
Despite its rapid expansion and market ascent, the top three UPI apps by transaction volume in July 2026 remain PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm. WhatsApp Pay’s current standing as the eighth-largest demonstrates its evolving, yet still consolidating, market presence against established players.
