Vodafone Idea’s AGR reassessment significantly strengthens its balance sheet, reducing liability and paving the way for focused FY27 execution and network expansion.

Vodafone Idea’s balance sheet has been significantly strengthened by the reassessment of its Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) liability, improving future cash flow visibility. Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla confirmed that the current fiscal year, FY27, will emphasize execution and delivery.

Financial Overhaul and Strategic Payouts

This critical reassessment led to a substantial reduction in the company’s AGR liability, which now stands at Rs 64,046 crore after an approximate 27 percent decrease.

  • The reassessment resulted in a one-time profit after tax of Rs 34,552 crore.
  • A clear long-term repayment schedule for remaining dues is set, with annual payments from March 2032 to March 2041.
  • Capital expenditure orders totaling Rs 9,000 crore have already been placed for FY27.

Birla noted significant progress in overcoming legacy challenges and restoring financial flexibility, highlighting a renewed focus on network infrastructure investment.

Rebuilding Momentum and Future Investments

The company achieved its first net subscriber additions in the June quarter of FY27 since the merger of Vodafone and Idea, signaling a positive shift in business momentum.

  • The Aditya Birla Group has committed Rs 4,730 crore via warrants, with Rs 1,183 crore already received.
  • Vodafone Idea has secured approximately Rs 6,400 crore in additional funding.
  • A comprehensive Rs 45,000 crore capex plan will unfold over three years, commencing September 2024.
  • Telecom gear makers Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung have been selected for network expansion.

The 5G rollout is actively progressing, with services now available in over 200 cities and further expansion slated across key operational circles.

This strategic financial repositioning and investment pipeline underscore Vodafone Idea’s determined push towards sustained operational improvement and market presence.
