Vikas Goel is set to assume the role of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) on August 1, 2026. This leadership change marks a pivotal moment for the exchange as it strategically plans to diversify into the equity and equity derivatives segment.

Leadership Transition and Strategic Mandate

Goel will succeed Dr. Arun Raste, ensuring a seamless transition following Dr. Raste’s extended term conclusion on July 31, 2026. His appointment arrives as NCDEX prepares to broaden its market offerings significantly.

Vikas Goel’s Extensive Financial Background

Goel brings over three decades of experience across various financial market operations, including treasury, global markets, and fixed income. His prior leadership role was as MD and CEO of PNB Gilts Limited from February 2019 to December 2024, where he notably strengthened the company’s standing.

  • Goel possesses over thirty years of experience in financial markets.
  • He previously led PNB Gilts Limited, establishing it as the second-largest primary dealer in government securities in India.

Before his tenure at PNB Gilts Limited, Goel held senior positions at several prominent institutions. These included First Abu Dhabi Bank, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, and American Express Bank Ltd.

NCDEX’s Diversification and Future Growth

NCDEX anticipates Goel’s leadership will be crucial in reinforcing its position within India’s dynamic financial markets through this planned expansion. The exchange has outlined multiple strategic initiatives to achieve this growth.

  • Venturing into the equity and equity derivatives segment.
  • Building upon its recently introduced Mutual Fund Transaction Platform.
  • Expanding its existing commodity derivatives product basket.
  • Introducing innovative weather derivatives.
  • Strengthening its core existing businesses.

This strategic shift under new leadership indicates NCDEX’s clear intent to evolve beyond its traditional commodity focus, aiming for a more comprehensive role in the broader Indian financial landscape.
