Vedanta Demerged Units Announce Earnings; HZL Profit Soars 145%
By Business Desk
Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL) reported a massive 145% surge in Q1 FY27 net profit to ₹5,469 crore. Vedanta’s demerged entities also set their inaugural earnings dates.
Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL) announced a consolidated net profit of ₹5,469 crore for the quarter ending June 30, 2026, more than doubling its profit from the prior year. This 145% year-on-year increase comes as the recently demerged entities of Vedanta Ltd prepare to release their inaugural quarterly earnings.
HZL’s strong Q1 FY27 performance was primarily driven by a combination of higher metal prices and increased metal production. The company also benefited from improved by-product realization and a stronger dollar.
Key Q1 FY27 Financial Figures for HZL
- Consolidated Net Profit: ₹5,469 crore (145% year-on-year increase)
- Revenue from Operations: ₹13,033 crore (71.6% year-on-year increase)
The four independent businesses spun off from Vedanta Ltd — Vedanta Oil & Gas, Vedanta Iron and Steel, Vedanta Aluminium, and Vedanta Power — have all confirmed their earnings schedules for the first quarter of FY27.
Vedanta Demerged Entities Q1 FY27 Earnings Schedule
- Vedanta Aluminium Metal: Board meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2026.
- Vedanta Power: Board meeting slated for Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
- Vedanta Iron and Steel: Board meeting slated for Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
- Vedanta Oil & Gas: Expected to release June quarter earnings on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
In a related development, Vedanta Oil & Gas secured a no-objection certificate (NOC) on July 26, 2026, from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG). This NOC pertains to the transfer of participating interests and operatorship of specific oil and gas blocks, a critical step following the demerger scheme that became effective on May 1, 2026.
Market Debut Prices of Vedanta’s New Units
These four demerged entities made their stock market debut on June 15, 2026, with varying initial listing prices:
- Vedanta Aluminium Metal: Listed at ₹527 on the BSE and ₹522 on the NSE.
- Vedanta Power: Listed at ₹41.30 on the BSE and ₹41.80 on the NSE.
- Vedanta Oil and Gas: Listed at ₹39 on the BSE and ₹38 on the NSE.
- Vedanta Iron and Steel: Listed at ₹22.25 on the BSE and ₹20 on the NSE.
The strategic demerger, which received approval from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in December of the previous year, aims to streamline Vedanta’s corporate structure. This move is designed to create sector-focused businesses that can attract global investors, including sovereign wealth funds and strategic investors, by offering direct investment opportunities in specialized companies linked to India’s economic growth.
Ultimately, the restructuring empowers individual units to pursue their strategic objectives more autonomously. This greater alignment with customer needs, investment cycles, and end markets could enhance their ability to attract specialized capital and respond to specific industry dynamics.
