Uzbekistan Offers 30-Day Visa-Free Entry for Indians

Uzbekistan has implemented a 30-day visa-free regime for Indian citizens, a significant development announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day state visit to Tashkent. This measure is designed to notably strengthen people-to-people connections, stimulate tourism, and promote business exchanges between the two nations.

Deepening Bilateral Ties

President Mirziyoyev underscored India’s crucial role as a “reliable strategic partner,” highlighting the substantial growth in their bilateral relationship. This partnership, initiated with diplomatic relations in 1992, was elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2011, showcasing a long-term commitment.

The economic and connectivity aspects underpinning this relationship have seen considerable expansion. Last year alone, bilateral trade between India and Uzbekistan surpassed USD 1 billion, marking an impressive sevenfold increase.

Connectivity is further bolstered by direct flights. There are currently 14 weekly direct flights operating between the two countries, facilitating both business and leisure travel.

Cultural Exchange and Future Prospects

Beyond economics, India and Uzbekistan share robust cultural ties, supported by dedicated institutions. These include the Lal Bahadur Shastri Center for Indian Culture and the Mahatma Gandhi Center for Indian Studies, which actively promote mutual understanding.

The popularity of Yoga in Uzbekistan also demonstrates these strong cultural links. A dedicated Yoga federation has existed since 2018, culminating in a nationwide festival held every June.

This newly introduced visa regime is expected to further streamline travel processes, thereby reinforcing the already multifaceted relationship between India and Uzbekistan. The move signals a clear intent to deepen engagement across various sectors.
