US Dominates India’s LPG Imports at 67%, Minister Puri Confirms

India’s liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) imports have undergone a substantial transformation, with the United States now serving as the primary supplier, accounting for 67% of the nation’s total LPG imports. Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri revealed this significant increase, noting that India had initially targeted sourcing only about 10% of its LPG requirements from the US.

This strategic decision was made independently earlier in the year and was not initially linked to broader geopolitical concerns, such as those in the Strait of Hormuz. Despite initial considerations regarding the logistics and cost of sourcing LPG from a distant market, subsequent global developments necessitated a rapid increase in supply from the United States.
