Urban Company Sues Kent RO Over ‘Unsafe’ Purifier Ads

Ever wondered if a brand’s promise of a two-year filter life is too good to be true? Urban Company recently took Kent RO Systems to court over advertisements that labeled its water purifiers as “unsafe” and “risky” for consumers.

The home services giant filed a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court, alleging defamation and product disparagement. Urban Company claims Kent’s ads and social media campaigns made false statements about its NATIVE M0, M1, M2, M1 Pro, and M2 Pro water purifiers.

Accusations of Misleading Claims

Kent RO’s campaign specifically targeted Urban Company’s features like a two-year filter life and a two-year no-servicing guarantee. The advertisements reportedly called these features a “marketing gimmick,” portraying the purifiers as potentially harmful.

During a Delhi High Court hearing, Kent RO Systems agreed to take down the controversial advertisements and related social media content. They also committed to not running any similar promotional material that disparages Urban Company’s water purifiers based on their filter life or servicing features.

Urban Company initiated the lawsuit on August 11.

The Delhi High Court hearing where Kent agreed to the removal took place on August 12.

Kent was ordered to remove the disputed content within 15 days of August 12.

The court’s official order was published on August 22.

Ongoing Legal Battles

This isn’t the only legal tussle between the two companies. Other disputes are still in play, including a patent infringement suit filed by Kent and a counterclaim from Urban Company.
