Tractor Junction Initiates Second ESOP Buyback Program

Tractor Junction, a prominent Indian agritech marketplace, has announced its second employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) liquidity program. The company will buy back stocks worth ₹3 crore from 80 eligible employees who will exercise their vested ESOPs. This strategic move, occurring within two years of its inaugural buyback, underscores the startup’s commitment to rewarding and retaining its workforce amidst India’s competitive talent landscape.

This latest ESOP event follows Tractor Junction’s successful Series A funding round in November 2025, where it secured ₹200 crore ($22.6 million). The funding was led by Astanor, with significant participation from existing investors Info Edge Ventures and Omnivore, bolstering the company’s financial position and strategic growth initiatives.

Robust Financial Performance and Growth Targets

The agricultural technology marketplace reported a robust financial performance for the fiscal year FY26, achieving a topline of ₹198.4 crore. This figure represents a substantial 62% year-over-year increase, highlighting the company’s expanding market presence and operational efficiency in the agritech sector.

Additionally, Tractor Junction’s digital platform attracted over 6 crore annual visitors during FY26, demonstrating its significant reach and user engagement within the rural and agricultural segments. Building on this strong momentum, the startup has set an ambitious target to double its revenue, aiming to achieve ₹400 crore in the fiscal year FY27.

Expanding Reach and Integrated Offerings

Founded in 2018 by Rajat Gupta, Shivani Gupta, and Animesh Agarwal, Tractor Junction has established itself as a pivotal platform for farmers and rural entrepreneurs across India. It facilitates the discovery, purchase, sale, financing, and insurance of a wide range of agricultural machinery and commercial vehicles through a comprehensive digital, retail, and fintech network.

The company operates a robust physical presence with company-owned, company-operated (CoCo) stores spread across 85 cities in six Indian states. This extensive network enables deeper market penetration and direct customer engagement. Tractor Junction has also forged partnerships with more than 50 original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for tractors, trucks, three-wheelers, and two-wheelers, enhancing its product and service offerings.

Diversifying its services, Tractor Junction launched its fintech arm, FINJ, in 2024. FINJ has rapidly expanded its operations, now active in 17 states and collaborating with over 35 lender partners. This financial segment also boasts a broad network of more than 19,000 channel partners, providing crucial financing solutions to its diverse customer base.

Strategic Importance of ESOP Buybacks in India’s Startup Ecosystem

To date, Tractor Junction has successfully raised over $28 million in funding, including its latest Series A round. The consistent capital infusion supports its expansion plans, technological advancements, and continued market leadership in the agritech space.

ESOP buybacks have emerged as a vital tool for Indian startups to attract, motivate, and retain top talent in a highly competitive job market. These liquidity events provide employees with tangible financial returns, fostering loyalty and a sense of ownership within the company’s growth trajectory.

The broader Indian startup ecosystem witnessed significant activity in ESOP buybacks during 2025. A total of twelve Indian startups executed such programs, collectively enabling more than 9,200 employees to unlock wealth exceeding ₹1,409 crore ($158 million). This trend underscores the increasing maturity of the startup ecosystem and its focus on employee wealth creation.

Prior to Tractor Junction’s announcement, several other prominent startups in India had also completed ESOP buyback exercises this year, including Innovaccer, Emversity, CoinDCX, Atlys, and Unacademy. These instances further highlight the growing recognition among startups of ESOPs as a strategic element for talent management and long-term organizational success within the country’s vibrant startup landscape.
