The Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel Project has advanced with the launch of its second tunnel boring machine, ‘Arjuna’, commencing excavation from the Thane side. This development is set to drastically cut travel time between Thane and Borivali from 60-90 minutes to just 15 minutes.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) announced that ‘Arjuna’ will operate concurrently with TBM-1 ‘Nayak’, which is already excavating the first tunnel. Together, these machines will construct 10.25 km of twin tunnels as part of the larger 11.84 km Thane-Borivali corridor.
