Tata Power Commissions 100 MW Solar Project in Tamil Nadu

Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL) has significantly expanded its clean energy footprint with the commissioning of a 100 MW Group Captive Solar Project in Tamil Nadu. This strategic move at Vellalankottai and Nalandhula villages in Kayathar pushes TPREL’s total utility portfolio to 12.3 GW, exceeding the 7 GW operational capacity milestone.

Strategic Group Captive Project Details

The newly commissioned project is specifically designed to supply clean power to multiple Tata Group entities. This captive arrangement ensures a direct flow of green electricity to key manufacturing and development arms, aligning with broader corporate sustainability goals.

• TP Solar will receive 40.625 MW, supporting its high-efficiency solar cell and module production.
• Tata Electronics, focused on semiconductors and advanced electronics, will utilize 53.125 MW.
• Tata Realty And Infrastructure is allocated 6.25 MW for its development initiatives.

Key Operational and Environmental Metrics

The project is set to deliver substantial environmental and operational benefits. Annually, it is projected to generate a significant volume of clean electricity while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions.

• Annual clean electricity generation: 240.63 million units (MUs).
• Expected annual CO2 emissions offset: approximately 1.5 lakh tonnes.
• TPREL’s current operational capacity breakdown includes over 5.7 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind energy assets.

Future Growth Trajectory

Beyond current operations, TPREL maintains a robust development pipeline, signaling continued expansion in renewable energy. An additional 5.3 GW is currently under various stages of development, comprising both solar and wind projects.

These upcoming projects, including 2.2 GW of solar and 3.1 GW of wind capacity, are slated for phased commissioning within the next 6 to 24 months.
