Key Highlights

Anthropic launches Claude Opus 4.7 for advanced coding. Indian startups see a sharp decline in venture capital funding. Read the latest tech and startup news.

The enterprise AI race is intensifying as Anthropic recently released its latest model, Claude Opus 4.7, just a week after previewing Claude Mythos, the company’s most powerful model to date. This launch also follows OpenAI’s introduction of GPT-5.4-Cyber.

Within Anthropic’s ecosystem, Opus 4.7 is positioned at the top of the generally available models, surpassing the Sonnet and Haiku variants. The new model is specifically designed for advanced software engineering and complex, long-running tasks requiring a high degree of autonomy. Users report that Opus 4.7 can handle challenging coding tasks with minimal supervision, often verifying its own outputs before submission.

In other news regarding funding, venture capital inflow into Indian startups has proven unpredictable, with the third week of April serving as a prime example. Total funding for the week amounted to just $70 million across 16 deals, a stark contrast to the $588 million recorded the previous week. This represents the lowest weekly fundraise for the year thus far.

This uneven inflow of VC into Indian startups highlights the ongoing challenges the ecosystem faces in maintaining a steady flow of investments. Notably, no single transaction this week exceeded $50 million in value, coupled with a reduced number of deals. However, branded national hostel chain The Hosteller successfully raised Rs 150 crore (approximately $16 million) from PROMAFT Partners, V3 Ventures, ITI Growth Opportunities Fund, Merisis Wealth Trust, and various family offices.

In other updates, private sector lender ICICI Bank reported a net profit growth of 8.49% for the January-March quarter of FY26, reaching Rs 13,701.68 crore, up from Rs 12,629.58 crore in Q4FY25. Additionally, Anthropic has announced the launch of Claude Design, an experimental product enabling users to create visuals such as prototypes and slides using Claude.
