St. Xavier’s University Hosts Finance & Crypto Conference
St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, in collaboration with the Kolkata Bidhannagar Society for Academic Advancement, recently hosted the International Conference 2026. The event focused on “Decentralised Finance, Cryptocurrency and Fintech: En route to Viksit Bharat @2047.”
Supported by the Indian Council of Social Science Research – Eastern Regional Centre (ICSSR-ERC) and Multi-Commodity Exchange of India Ltd. (MCX), the hybrid conference brought together academicians, researchers, and industry experts.
Key Discussions & Topics
Discussions centered on the latest trends in finance and technology. These included:
- Decentralised finance and cryptocurrency
- Blockchain technology
- Fintech applications for MSMEs and rural credit
- Digital financial inclusion and sustainable finance
- ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and green fintech
- Integration of AI/ML in financial markets
Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, S.J., Vice-Chancellor of St. Xavier’s University, inaugurated the conference. He emphasized technology’s role in promoting inclusion, ethical growth, and human dignity.
Expert Insights & Research
Pre-conference plenary sessions featured an opening lecture by Prof. Charalampos Stasinakis from the University of Glasgow. A special session on “Commodity Markets and Fintech” was delivered by Debojyoti Dey, Vice President and Head of Research at MCX.
The conference received 168 research paper submissions from across India. Following a screening process, 85 papers were selected, with 70 registered for presentation in both online and offline technical sessions. This initiative successfully fostered academic exchange and industry interaction, aligning with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
