SpiceJet’s domestic aviation market share plunged to 1.6% in July, as the airline transported just 1.87 lakh passengers. This significant decline occurred while IndiGo solidified its market leadership, commanding a substantial majority of the sector.

- IndiGo maintained its dominant position with a 67.4% market share, flying 80.82 lakh passengers.
- The Air India Group secured the second-largest share at 24%, carrying 28.75 lakh passengers.
- Overall, domestic airlines collectively transported approximately 1.2 crore passengers during July.
- This total passenger volume represents a nearly 5% decrease compared to the previous year.
Despite IndiGo’s robust market performance, shares of its parent company, InterGlobe Aviation, saw a dip of over 1% on August 21. The overall reduction in domestic passenger traffic for July highlights broader challenges within the aviation sector.
Airline On-Time Performance Revealed
- IndiGo led in operational efficiency with an on-time performance of 91.2%.
- Akasa Air followed closely, recording 90.8% on-time flights.
- Air India reported an on-time performance of 86.5% for the month.
- In stark contrast, SpiceJet registered a significantly lower on-time performance of just 34.5%.
