THE PIP (TL;DR)
Specialised Investment Funds are growing rapidly, offering new avenues for savvy investors beyond traditional options. These funds saw their Assets Under Management (AUM) increase 29% month-on-month to ₹17,858 crore by June 2026, driven primarily by strong investor inflows into hybrid investment strategies, as reported by Amfi. This development means that beyond traditional mutual funds, new sophisticated options are gaining traction, providing diverse avenues for portfolio growth.
Specialised Investment Funds (SIFs), a newer category for sophisticated investors, saw their Assets Under Management (AUM) jump by a remarkable 29% month-on-month to reach ₹17,858 crore by the end of June 2026. This significant growth, up from ₹13,814 crore in May, was largely fueled by robust investor inflows into hybrid investment strategies, as confirmed by Amfi data.
The SIF framework, introduced by market regulator Sebi in February 2025, bridges the gap between traditional mutual funds and high-value Portfolio Management Services (PMS), offering flexible hedging and long-short strategies. Hybrid strategies now dominate the SIF segment, accounting for 72% of the total SIF AUM or ₹12,822 crore, with hybrid long-short funds alone managing ₹11,910 crore.
While SIFs target more sophisticated investors, this growth reflects a broader trend of sustained investor participation across the mutual fund industry, which hit a total AUM of ₹82.2 lakh crore in June. Active equity and hybrid funds collectively attracted net inflows of approximately ₹36,000 crore, suggesting a healthy appetite for diversified investment options among retail investors.
This positive momentum is further underscored by record systematic investment plan (SIP) contributions, which reached ₹31,781 crore in June, pushing SIP AUM to ₹17.70 lakh crore. With 10.52 crore outstanding SIP accounts, this indicates growing investor maturity and confidence in navigating market fluctuations, noted Santosh Joseph, CEO of Germinate Investor Services.
