Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman urges wider deployment of startup technologies in Indian districts and government facilities, focusing on public benefits and innovation.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday advocated for the extensive deployment of startup-developed technologies beyond major cities. She urged their integration into districts and government facilities, ensuring direct citizen benefits.
Speaking at the Rajasthan Yuva Conclave 2026 in Jaipur, Sitharaman emphasized that government support for startups must transcend mere financial backing. She called for the rapid implementation of innovations with practical public applications, particularly in healthcare and other public services.
Leveraging AI for Early Childhood Health
Sitharaman cited an AI-based technology designed for early detection of developmental issues in children as a prime example. This startup innovation has been successfully implemented in 30 primary health centers across Rajasthan. It has provided interventions to over 1,500 families.
- The system uses a three-minute video assessment.
- Identifies children needing additional developmental support.
- Implemented in 30 primary health centers in Rajasthan.
- Provided interventions to over 1,500 families.
This technology makes specialized screening more accessible and less costly for families residing outside major cities. The Finance Minister praised the Rajasthan government for its dual support. This included financial aid through its iStart programme and integrating the technology into the public health system.
AI’s Role in Strengthening Banking Security
Sitharaman also highlighted AI’s significant role within the banking sector. She engaged with the founder of Advarisk, a Rajasthan-based startup leveraging AI. Advarisk assists financial institutions in identifying potential fraud and managing loan exposure.
- Advarisk collaborates with over 100 financial institutions.
- Proactively detects fraud to reduce credit costs.
- Aims to decrease non-performing assets.
- Facilitates access to lower-cost loans for deserving MSMEs and individuals.
The Finance Minister underscored the national importance of such technologies. She suggested that solutions from Rajasthan-based startups should be made accessible to financial institutions across India.
Additionally, Sitharaman encouraged self-help groups to diversify into new business ventures. These include warehousing and cold storage, supported by bank financing. This initiative aims to simplify access to crucial financial products for these groups.
