Key Highlights

SECI is actively seeking carbon dioxide suppliers for its ambitious green urea and methanol projects, aiming to boost India’s renewable fuel production and green chemical initiatives.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has initiated a call for Expressions of Interest, aiming to identify carbon dioxide suppliers for its critical green urea and renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO)-compliant green methanol projects.

This strategic move is designed to map potential carbon dioxide sources, which are essential for supporting upcoming green chemical projects and bolstering India’s nascent renewable fuel economy.

Identifying Key Suppliers

SECI is actively seeking information from various industries and entities capable of supplying carbon dioxide. The tender document outlines an exercise to pinpoint available CO₂ sources and assess their suitability for these burgeoning sectors.

  • A pre-bid meeting is scheduled for August 18.
  • The submission window for bids will officially close on September 17.

The Green Production Mechanism

Producing both green methanol and green urea fundamentally relies on a combination of carbon dioxide and green hydrogen. This green hydrogen is generated through electrolysis, a process powered exclusively by renewable electricity sources.

Ensuring a consistent, reliable, and compliant supply of carbon dioxide is paramount for scaling domestic production effectively. This adherence to sustainability standards becomes even more critical for export-oriented fuels, particularly RFNBO-compliant green methanol.

Broader National Objectives

This initiative directly aligns with India’s overarching ambition to cultivate a robust domestic green hydrogen ecosystem. It also aims to significantly expand the production of crucial downstream products.

  • Green ammonia
  • Green methanol
  • Green urea

These efforts are integral to the nation’s strategy for decarbonizing various industries and simultaneously unlocking new, significant export opportunities for India in the global green energy market.
