Scapia Closes Significant Funding Round Led by General Catalyst
Travel-focused fintech startup Scapia has announced a substantial funding round, securing $63 million (approximately ₹600 Cr) in fresh capital. The round was spearheaded by prominent venture capital firm General Catalyst, with continued support from existing investors Peak XV Partners and Z47. This infusion of capital is strategically earmarked to enhance Scapia’s product suite and accelerate its growth trajectory within the competitive travel fintech landscape.
Strategic Deployment of Funds for Growth and Brand Building
A significant portion of the newly acquired funds will be dedicated to robust brand-building initiatives, aiming to elevate Scapia’s market presence. Furthermore, the company plans to leverage this investment to expedite its AI-first product development strategy and expand its operational teams. The primary objective is to increase Scapia’s customer base across India, solidifying its position as a key player in the digital travel and finance sector. Founder and CEO Anil Goteti emphasized that a part of the capital will be directly deployed to strengthen the startup’s core product offerings, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of modern travelers.
Scapia’s Innovative Product Suite for Modern Travelers
Founded in 2022 by Anil Goteti, Scapia has rapidly carved a niche by offering co-branded credit cards specifically tailored for Gen Z and millennial travelers. These cards are issued in partnership with reputable financial institutions, Federal Bank and Bank of Baroda, and operate on the widely accepted Visa network. Key benefits include attractive features such as zero foreign exchange markup on international transactions, unlimited complimentary domestic lounge access, and a suite of travel-centric rewards programs designed to appeal to frequent flyers and vacationers. Beyond credit cards, Scapia operates a comprehensive travel app that facilitates seamless booking of airline tickets, hotel accommodations, and domestic transportation options, providing users with an integrated travel planning experience.
Expansion of Services and Recent Product Innovations
In the past six months, Scapia has demonstrated a commitment to innovation by introducing a series of new products and services. These include Scapia Pay, a rewards-first UPI experience, add-on credit cards for enhanced convenience, a facility for credit card bill payments across all banks via the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), the Scapia Store for curated travel-related products, and Scapia Experiences for unique travel opportunities. These additions underscore Scapia’s ambition to be a one-stop solution for all travel-related financial needs, moving beyond traditional credit card offerings.
Funding Trajectory and Future Outlook
This latest funding round follows Scapia’s successful Series B funding round of $40 million in April of the previous year, which was led by Peak XV Partners with participation from Elevation Capital and Z47. With the current $63 million raise, Scapia has cumulatively secured $135 million to date. This consistent investor confidence highlights the market’s positive reception to Scapia’s business model and its potential for significant growth. The company is well-positioned to leverage this capital to further innovate, expand its reach, and enhance its service offerings, aiming to redefine the travel fintech experience for Indian consumers.
