India’s private sector investment shows sustained growth, driven by robust public capital expenditure. Economic Affairs Secretary Anuradha Thakur confirms positive economic trends.
Private sector investment in India is demonstrating steady and sustained growth, a development strongly supported by the government’s consistent emphasis on capital expenditure, Economic Affairs Secretary Anuradha Thakur has confirmed.
A recent analysis indicates that the green shoots of private investment, initially noted in a 2023 CII survey, have matured into a stable upward trajectory.
Public Capex as a Catalyst for Growth
Public capital expenditure has expanded more than fivefold over the last decade. It grew from Rs 2 lakh crore in 2014-15 to a projected Rs 10.7 lakh crore by 2025-26.
For the current fiscal year, the government has further projected public capital expenditure at Rs 12.2 lakh crore in the Union Budget.
Thakur noted that various indicators, including the take-off of new projects and a decade-low in stalling projects, signal a positive trend. She explained that public investment continues to play a catalytic role by encouraging private investment.
Foundations for Long-Term Economic Strength
India’s long-term growth trajectory hinges significantly on the effective deployment of both public and private capital. This deployment is crucial for creating productive assets, globally competitive industries, quality employment opportunities, and transformative innovations.
Equally vital is enhancing access to finance, particularly for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which remain a foundational pillar for the manufacturing sector.
India’s Resilience Amidst Global Uncertainty
The global economy currently navigates a period marked by extraordinary uncertainty. Geopolitical tensions, volatility in energy markets, fragmented trade patterns, and technological disruptions are actively reshaping the international landscape.
Against this complex backdrop, India has emerged as a consistent beacon of growth and stability. The economy has achieved an average growth rate of 7 per cent over the past three years, all while maintaining macroeconomic stability.
