Powerus Expands Low-Cost Drone Interceptor Production in UAE & India

Florida-based startup Powerus is rapidly expanding production of its low-cost ‘Guardian’ drone interceptors in the UAE and India. These systems are designed to counter Iranian Shahed drones, with each interceptor costing approximately $5,000.

The company’s strategy involves quick assembly using 3-D printed components and off-the-shelf parts. This approach enables localized manufacturing to meet urgent demands in conflict zones, particularly amid the Iran war.

Powerus aims to shift the traditional defense industry model towards co-production and simpler systems. The company has also attracted investments and advisory board members with ties to Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump.

Strategic Manufacturing Shift

Powerus teams up with local manufacturers in regions needing interceptors, allowing faster production in existing factories. This bypasses the need to build new plants in the United States and export weapons.

This strategy addresses urgent demands from US-allied countries, especially in West Asia, where civilian infrastructure has been heavily targeted. The Guardian interceptor is based on a Ukrainian design proven effective against Russian Shahed drones.

While effective against mid-sized drones, Guardians complement higher-end missile defense systems required for ballistic missiles and advanced drone threats. Powerus is partnering with a defense company in India for manufacturing efforts.

This new business model, emphasizing co-production, is also being adopted by larger defense companies. Lockheed Martin, for instance, plans to produce a lower-cost interceptor in Europe.
