PNGRB’s Rs 12,500 Crore LPG Pipeline Expansion Plan

Key Highlights

PNGRB plans ₹12,500 Cr LPG pipeline expansion to boost safety & efficiency in India. Bidding open for 2,500 km of pipelines. Reduce road transport reliance.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has announced a significant initiative to expand India’s LPG pipeline infrastructure. This expansion plan is projected to attract an investment of Rs 12,500 crore.

PNGRB has initiated bidding for nine LPG pipeline projects, which will span approximately 2,500 km. The objective is to reduce the country’s reliance on road transport for LPG distribution, thereby improving both safety and efficiency. Four key pipelines are currently in the bidding stage.

The expansion aims to connect refineries and import terminals directly with bottling plants. This seamless supply chain is expected to minimize the risks associated with transporting LPG via tankers. Furthermore, PNGRB emphasized that this shift to pipeline transport will lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and transit losses. The project is also expected to generate employment opportunities and support regional development.

PNGRB has set a long-term goal of eliminating bulk LPG road transportation by 2030, marking a significant step towards a more sustainable and efficient energy distribution system.
