Pilots and management discuss flight schedules and regulations in a busy operations room.
Key Highlights
ALPA urges DGCA to implement strict flight duty rules, citing risks from delayed regulations and airline relaxations. Demands transparency in fatigue management.
The Airline Pilots’ Association of India (ALPA) has alerted the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) about the potential flight safety risks stemming from the delayed implementation of updated flight duty and rest rules. ALPA warns that the current relaxations being offered to airlines are undermining the safety standards and are urging the DGCA to establish a clear plan for the prompt cessation of these variations and the reinstatement of stringent rest regulations.
In addition to demanding a return to stricter rules, ALPA is also calling for enhanced transparency in the monitoring of pilot fatigue and health. The pilots’ body highlighted that recent operational challenges underscore the critical need for more effective fatigue management strategies to ensure the well-being of flight crew and the safety of air travel.
