Key Highlights

PhysicsWallah (PW) achieves 35% revenue growth to ₹3,900 Cr in FY26, driven by paid users, offline expansion, and AI efficiencies, turning pre-tax profit positive.

PhysicsWallah Reports Strong FY26 Growth and Profitability Turnaround

Edtech major PhysicsWallah (PW) concluded its fiscal year 2026 with a robust financial performance, marking a significant improvement in both revenue growth and profitability. The company reported a 35% year-over-year surge in revenue from operations, reaching Rs 3,900 crore, up from Rs 2,887 crore in FY25. This impressive growth was coupled with a substantial enhancement in operating profitability and a positive pre-tax profit, underscoring the effectiveness of its strategic focus on increasing paid users, expanding its offline presence, and leveraging AI-led efficiencies across its operations.

The company’s financial health saw a remarkable turnaround, with its soaring by 184% to Rs 549 crore, leading to an expansion of margins from 7% in FY25 to 14% in FY26. Furthermore, PhysicsWallah significantly narrowed its reported loss to Rs 24 crore in FY26, a considerable improvement from Rs 243 crore in the previous fiscal year. This reduction was achieved despite one-time expenses amounting to Rs 63 crore, highlighting underlying operational strengths. Crucially, the firm’s profit before tax turned positive at Rs 10 crore, a stark contrast to the Rs 259 crore loss recorded a year earlier, signaling a pivotal shift towards sustainable financial health.

Key Drivers: User Growth and Operational Leverage Bolster Performance

PhysicsWallah’s strong full-year performance was primarily fueled by a substantial increase in its paid user base, coupled with improved operating leverage and stringent cost discipline. The total number of paid users climbed to 5.34 million in FY26, up from 4.46 million in FY25, reflecting growing traction for its educational offerings. This growth was bifurcated, with online transacting users rising to 4.87 million and offline enrolments increasing to 0.47 million, demonstrating the success of its hybrid delivery model.

Under the leadership of Alakh Pandey, the company has diversified its educational portfolio, now operating across more than 16 exam categories, each of which has successfully surpassed Rs 10 crore in annual collections. This expansion into multiple segments has not only broadened its market reach but also contributed significantly to its overall revenue growth. The company’s ability to scale its operations while simultaneously improving its financial metrics underscores a well-executed strategy aimed at capturing a larger share of the competitive edtech market.

Hybrid Business Model: Online Dominance and Offline Expansion

PhysicsWallah’s hybrid business model, integrating both online and offline learning platforms, proved instrumental in its FY26 success. The online segment continued to be the largest revenue contributor, accounting for approximately half of the total FY26 revenue. Online revenue witnessed a 39% year-over-year growth, reaching Rs 1,954 crore, supported by an 18% increase in unique transacting users. Thirteen out of its sixteen online categories reported double-digit enrolment growth, indicating broad-based demand across its offerings. Average collection per user (ACPU) also improved by 11.4% year-over-year to Rs 4,104, attributed to higher uptake of premium and value-added courses.

Simultaneously, the offline business segment demonstrated robust expansion, with revenue climbing 31% to Rs 1,774 crore. This growth was driven by aggressive physical network expansion, as PhysicsWallah increased its number of offline centres across India and the UAE from 198 to 353 within a year. Offline enrolments consequently surged to 467,500 from 325,600 in FY25. The company positioned itself as the “fastest-growing player in the offline segment,” noting that its Vidyapeeth format, which constitutes about 70% of offline revenue, made “significant strides toward profitability.” However, the offline business experienced some pressure points, including a 9% year-over-year decline in Offline ARPU to Rs 36,625 due to segment mix changes, and elevated costs in the near term due to rapid centre expansion, though mature centres showed improving unit economics.

Strategic AI Integration and Operational Efficiencies

A significant strategic thrust for PhysicsWallah in FY26 was its intensified focus on AI-led products and automation, which played a crucial role in enhancing operational efficiencies and reducing costs. The company reported that cumulative AI interactions on its platform surpassed 100 million queries during the year, with approximately 3.3 million students spending over an hour daily engaging with its AI-powered tools. Furthermore, PhysicsWallah claimed that 91% of its code is now AI-assisted, substantially improving engineering speed and workflow efficiency across the organization.

PhysicsWallah has developed a suite of in-house AI products, including Ask AI, AI Guru, AI Grader, and AI Mentor, designed to provide personalized learning experiences and support. The integration of AI extends beyond direct student interaction, encompassing AI-led counselling systems, voice agents, and lead routing tools aimed at optimizing sales conversion and lowering operational expenditures. According to the company, AI voice bots are now handling more than 6,000 calls daily, leading to an impressive reduction of approximately 75% in counselling costs compared to human-led operations. Addressing concerns about AI replacing human educators, the co-founders stated, “AI is not a replacement for our teachers. It is a way to give every Indian student a tutor available at 11 at night, one who knows exactly where they struggle, doesn’t judge them, and teaches them in their own language,” emphasizing AI’s role as an augmentative tool.

Future Outlook and Diversification Strategy

Looking ahead, demand indicators for FY27 appear promising for PhysicsWallah. The company’s annual Vishwas Diwas launch campaign, held over three weeks starting February 28, 2026, generated Rs 205 crore in collections, representing a 36% year-over-year increase, with total orders rising 21% to 439,600. This strong initial performance suggests continued momentum in the upcoming fiscal year. Premium categories such as Infinity Pro and newer offerings, including vernacular and state board courses, recorded significant growth, indicating successful product diversification.

PhysicsWallah also reported robust regional expansion, with enrolment growth in South India exceeding 30%, and Andhra Pradesh and Telangana delivering more than 50% growth. This geographical penetration signals a successful strategy to tap into diverse student populations across the country. Over the past three years, the broader enrolment mix has shifted meaningfully; while JEE and NEET remain core categories, their share of online enrolments decreased from 54% in FY23 to 29% in FY26. This diversification into segments like Boards, CUET, Commerce, Civil Services, and Foundation courses, which expanded more rapidly, is a strategic move to reduce dependence on any single exam category and ensures a more resilient business model for future growth.
